Fencing, tree work and landscaping in Gosport

A peninsula with water on three sides, one main road in, and weather that tests every fence.

Gosport is a peninsula. Portsmouth Harbour on one side, the Solent along Stokes Bay and Lee-on-the-Solent on the other, and the A32 as the one road in and out, which anyone who has sat on it at five o'clock knows about. We plan a Gosport day around that road, arriving early and loading the van for the whole job rather than running back for anything.

Being this exposed and this low-lying, the south-westerlies off the water are what decide fence design here. The honest recommendation on an open boundary in Alverstoke or Lee is closeboard on concrete posts, set deeper than the minimum, because a panel run that would last fifteen years inland is tested every winter here.

Much of Rowner, Bridgemary and Elson was built in the fifties and sixties, and the trees planted when the houses went up have had sixty years to outgrow the gardens they were put in. Reductions, removals and stump grinding make up a lot of what we are asked for, along with the patios and new lawns that follow once the light comes back.
