Tree surgery and landscaping in Havant

From the harbour villages to the edge of the Downs, with Hayling Island at the end of one bridge.

Havant sits where the chalk of Portsdown Hill and the Downs runs out into the coastal plain, with Langstone Harbour on one side and Chichester Harbour on the other. Emsworth, Bedhampton, Leigh Park, Rowlands Castle and Hayling Island are all part of the same patch for us, and each one is a different kind of garden.

Hayling is reached by a single bridge at Langstone, so we treat an Island job like a Gosport one: arrive with everything, do the whole job in one visit. The shoreline gardens there and in Emsworth get the full force of the sea air, which is where closeboard fencing on concrete posts earns its keep and where we steer people towards planting that will put up with salt.

Leigh Park is one of the largest estates built after the war, and its gardens are now at the age where the trees planted in the fifties need reducing or taking out and the original fences have had their day. Up towards Rowlands Castle the ground turns to chalk and the plots get bigger, with mature beech and yew and the patios, paths and driveways that go with older houses.
